Guesthouse is located on a quiet location, almost in the heart of the city and in more than 500 years old miner's house known as Antonijev Rov, mine entrance and birth-house of Slovenian engineer Stanko Bloudek. But at that time he was more interested in art than engineering. Why is he called Slovenian Leonardo da Vinci you can see in our restaurant.

 

In the ground floor of guesthouse Barbara you can visit Antonijev rov mine shaft, the oldest part of the Idrija Mine.

 

Working hours of restaurant:

 

Monday – Tuesday: 9.00 – 22.00

Friday – Saturday: 9.00 – 23.00

Sunday and holidays – 10.00 – 22.00

 

We also accept reservations for groups (anniversaries, weddings). Dishes prepared in our restaurant are really pleasure for gourmets.

For guests who would like to stay overnight, we provide nice equipped rooms .

 

There is also a room suitable for seminars.

STANKO BLOUDEK

Airplane and automobile designer, a sportsman and a sport inventor, designer, builder and educator Stanko Bloudek was born on 11th of February 1890 in house which is today known as Guesthouse Barbara.


Son of a Czech father and Slovenian mother. His mother was Minka Lapajne from Idrija. Father worked in local mercury mine. After graduating in 1908 Bloudek as 18-year old young man went to Prague, where he was first enrolled in an art academy, but after a year realized that his passion is technology. Although the study was never completed and has not formally graduated, he was later recognized due to skills and achievements engineering title.


In Prague together with his friends first created sailplane and then monoplane called Racek (Seagull). In 1911 followed the Two-wing aircraft called Libela (Dragonfly).He was one of the biggest Slovenian inventor, airplane designer and builder and apart all this he was as active sportsman. In 1928 he became member of the Olympic team for the Winter Games in Sankt Moritz as figure skater. As an engineer Stanko Bloudek was engaged in the building of sport sites, too. According to his drafts the Bloudek Giant, the ski jumping hill in Planica was built in 1934.Bloudek was also active in the field of sport’s administration. In 1919 he participated in the founding of the Yugoslavian Olympic Committee. Finally in 1948 Bloudek became member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). He was the only Slovene member of the IOC ever.
